6 Things You Need to Know About the Rental Affordability Act, which will be on the November 2020 ballot:

1. California’s Proposition 10, also called the Local Rent Control Initiative, was on the ballot in November 2018 but was rejected

2. The proposition will appear on the November 2020 ballot, now referred to as Rental Affordability Act headed by Michael Weinstein

3. If passed, the Rental Affordability Act will remove current restrictions in state law, giving cities and counties the power to implement and expand rent control policies that limit how much rents can increase each year

4. The bill would allow more communities to:
– Expand rent control to more buildings while exempting new construction
– Exempt Single-Family homeowners who own up to two homes
– Allow limits on rent increases when a new renter moves in

5. Fundraising efforts estimate a goal of $70 MM+ to reject the proposition, with 60% funded by the time of the campaign

6. Currently, approximately $7 MM has been raised
